It is amazing how fortunate we are to have such a unique, excellent, and exciting combination of art and educational experiences available at DFAC.  These experiences are so closely interwoven that they relate to each other in a circular fashion: Seeing original artwork in rotating gallery exhibits, taking classes/workshops related to media viewed in the galleries, exploring concepts in the children’s museum based on fine art exhibitions, supporting artists through gift shop or exhibit sales, expanding your horizons through artist lectures, events and socials.  Where you enter the circle isn’t as important as being a part of the circle. I see the smiling faces of children who explored the new hands on museum, Cabinet of Natural Curiosities via DFAC’s school tours(click) where they learn about history, science, art concepts, humor, creative thinking and problem solving skills. These same smiling faces pop up over the years in the Mini Masters camp, Sizzlin’ Summer visual arts camp, Music Theater camp and the Art Squad teen camp(click).  They then become student volunteers who help the younglings follow in their footsteps.  Parents applaud how the structure of the art camps helped their child with ADD, ADHD, Aspergers, or Autism. These same children further develop their skills by taking classes after school,  continuing on through youth art classes to the specialized Teen classesand then to the Adult offerings.  Families come as far as Tampa, Trinity and New Port Richey to participate in DFAC’s programs.  Overall, it’s like a multi-multi- generational family that continues to complete the circle!

New Teen Art Club for Middle Schoolers and early High Schoolers!

The members of the Art Squad Teen Advisory Board, Jonathon, Maddie, Ashwin, Sara, Kelly, Alyssa, Elisse, Alison, Ian and Alex, worked up a new Teen Art Club that will meet on the third Saturday night of the month from 7pm – 9pm. Each meeting/get together would focus on a different area of art and art related fields like:  movies and film critiques, throwing on the wheel, 2D materials like drawing/painting, video gaming/graphics, and more. There is a $20 Membership fee for this club.  If the students’ family already has a family membership, then there won’t be any materials fee.  If you are a non-member, there will be an additional $5 materials/snack fee at each meeting.  The following are the Meeting dates and focus:  March 20, 7 – 9pm(wheel & Clay), April 17, 7-9pm(drawing cool stuff), May 15, 7-9pm (photoshop), June 19, 7-9pm( movie/film critique), July 17, 7-9pm(x-box & graphics)and Aug 21, 7-9pm (clay).  To attend: 1) students in middle school/early high school must join the Teen Art Club 2)students must sign up in advance for the meetings that they would like to attend due to space/equipment  limitations.   Call DFAC for forms, schedules and sign ups or Click Here for form.

Note: If you don’t see a class that fits your schedule, a class may be created for at least 6 participants and contingent on studio/instructor availability.
