The ELEVENTH Year for wearable ART Promises a HOT Spell at the End of August!
It’s hard to believe that it was TEN years ago that The Dunedin Fine Art Center’s incredibly successful Wearable ART Fashion Show, made its debut before its first SOLD-OUT crowd. Now in its 11th year, this always surprising event promises to continue to be the standard against which all other art/fashion shows are measured. Part of the reason the show continually remains fresh, may be the influx of new talent in the producer’s chair. DFAC’s new development director, Linda Hamilton steps up this year, with plans to expand the before and after parties and with some additional help from veteran producer Colin Bissett bring some added dazzle to the 11th time around of this yearly crowd-pleaser. “We knew after the 10th year milestone there was a possibility for a lull” offered Ms. Hamilton, who started with DFAC this past March. “We wanted to make sure that didn’t happen. With the addition of our TRIPLE B: Bizarre, Bodacious Bras and the talented eyes of curatorial director, Catherine Bergmann and producer Colin Bissett, we’re confident this year, is set to be the best ever,” she added.
Best ever is a tall challenge for this always dynamic show. Previous years have featured raw meat as body adornment, alarming breasts, pyrotechnics and sell-out after sell-out. “We’re thrilled to have such a diverse selection of artist/designers, including our youngest ever! We’ll also be showcasing an exhibition of paintings entitled “Robed in Fable” by Steven Kenny. Pre-party grooves will be provided by DJ Muggles Malone with the ‘stylishly and timelessly unhinged’ band Luxury Mane delivering the goods for this year’s after-party”, says curatorial director Catherine Bergmann. “We expect another sell-out and just an over-the-top show! As always, the audience will bring their OWN fashion flair to the event.”
This year, is the second year for locally prominent “Models of Success,” each of whom will be working with a designer to bring their work alive on the runway. This year’s models include Rachel Araujo, Jennifer Barnes, Michelle Fekete Baugh, Natasha Dickrell, Elizabeth Galbavy, Shpresa Idrizi, Daphne Robinson Shaw, Connor Storch, and Theresa Williams.
wearable ART was indeed one of the first in the area 10 years ago to showcase a growing contingent of artists working in fashion related ways. It continues that tradition in its eleventh year featuring an exhibition of incredible paintings “Robed in Fable,” by Steven Kenny, with runway presentations by Michael Ian Anzures + DemiGod, Stephanie Arner, Mark Byrne, Melissa Dolce, the Garden Fairies, Jeanne Halle, Julian Hartzog, Johnny Hunt, Lily Monk, Shelby Pogue and Lina Teixeira. All of this is crowned by the incredible hair & make-up artistry of Salon GW and La Posh.
And of course, let’s not forget TRIPLE B: bizarre, bodacious bras, which will feature artist created brassieres and is GUARANTEED to heat up the before AND after parties!
Tickets this year are $20 general admission, with seating going for $40 or $75, If past years are any indication, you’ll want to score your tickets early, while they’re still available.
