| Explore the many forms of traditional and nontraditional narrative: the personal essay, lyric essay, and of course, memoir. In this workshop we will write towards publication, read and discuss the published essays and texts of professional authors (i.e. Mary Karr, Tobias Wolff, Alice Eve Cohen), and workshop our own creative nonfictions using courteous and prescriptive critique. We will also talk about creative nonfiction in an academic manner, as we discuss the controversial nature of the form, the limits of memory, and the fine line between fact and fiction. |
